It’s finally here. And there are some pretty contagious tunes. Currently digging “How Come You Don’t Want Me.” Now who’s ready to dance?

2012 blew my friggin mind. I discovered that new artists aren’t necessarily terrible, as I had previously blasphemed. Fortunately the music gods didn’t smite my hearing for doubting the magic that was before me.
Whatever, I’ll get to the point. Several albums made me want to die (in a good way) this year. In no particular order. Read the rest of this entry »
WE ALL HAVE THEM.
Mine are a hopeless, sloppy, pukey mess of Britney Spears, Ke$ha, Glee covers, and emo bands. And I love it. There’s nothing better than having a few drinkys at worky and subjecting my coworkers to the terrible, TERRIBLE songs on my playlist. Read the rest of this entry »
2012 has been revolutionary for me. Isn’t that a great kicker to a post? Well, seriously, 2012 has been remarkable so far – specifically in the music department. You know, for as much as I consider myself a “music snob,” my taste has been pretty rusty as of the past few years. Beween the high school days and twenty-twelve, I’ve been slacking hardcore at listening to new releases. And you know why? It’s safer that way. There’s something wonderfully cozy about having a set-in-stone list of your favorite artists, mine of which have been Death Cab, Elliott Smith, Brand New, and Bright Eyes for the past 5 years or so. In all, there’s a list of 15-20 bands/artists that dominate my iTunes, my ear buds, and my car speakers. They’re all fantastic. They’re all familiar. They’re all safe. Read the rest of this entry »
Music is a time machine. It transports us to specific periods – even exact moments – in our lives. There’s a song from Bon Iver that will always remind me of the drive to the vet last year, when I said goodbye to my dog, Claude. The Kings of Convenience have a few tunes that bump my reality back a few years to a particular memory in 2005: driving to the library on a gorgeous autumn day, leaves skimming the asphalt. I even remember which book I checked out. Read the rest of this entry »

I saw Real Estate on Sunday at Plush. It was a great show for a couple of reasons. First of all, the band itself is pretty fantastic. Very soothing, very talented. I listen to them on a weekly basis. Read the rest of this entry »
I can never get over Elliott Smith’s talent. I have 75 songs of his on my iPhone and I shuffle through them on a daily basis. The funny thing is, no matter how many times I have heard his music, there will be a certain song that stands out in a new way. I’ll play it 30 times and on the 31st turn, it will suddenly mean something new. I guess that’s how all music is in a way. Read the rest of this entry »
This weekend was one for the books. I’ll jump right into it. Friday was the highly anticipated Cursive show at Off Broadway in St. Louis. I expected good music. I had no idea it would be quite as extraordinary as it was. Read the rest of this entry »
Ever since I started cultivating a serious interest in music, around 8 years ago, I have been compiling mix tapes for people I care about. Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve always wanted to work with bands – whether by booking concerts or being a groupie for death cab (JK, sorta). Whenever I took a graphic design class, I started designing posters for shows. It was just a fun way for me to express myself while also learning the Adobe design software. Read the rest of this entry »
